I still hear his voice. 

As an apprentice for a professional potter on an island a half hour west of Seattle in my 20’s, I learned to think differently.

My mentor Rick was an established artist with a Zen demeanor. While throwing pots in his studio or sipping Scotch during kiln firings, he’d drop these insights about working with clay that applied perfectly to life.

Nearly 30 years later, there are still moments when something happens and I hear his voice in my head. 

Not just the message, but the way he delivered it.
