LEX IN THE CITY

I can still remember being almost 15 years out of college sitting on a barstool, checking ID's and bouncing at the front door of the Elixir Bar in San Francisco's hopping mission district.
I'd gotten the job from a friend of a friend.
But I was worried.
Worried that this was as far as my brains and skill levels could take me.
For years, I ignored my parents' suggestions to go back to school.
What for? There wasn't anything pressing for me to study.
Admittedly, I didn't have higher aspirations because I didn't believe there was much I was built for.
I had made and sold pottery for years but not nearly enough to call it a living.
Plastic City

For most of the 20th century, Neuroscience insisted your brain peaked in your 20s and it was downhill from there.
Once those neural connections were set, that was it - No New Construction.
It turns out that was false.
In the early 2000s, scientists discovered something revolutionary:
Your brain doesn't just maintain old pathways - it builds entirely new ones throughout your entire life.
They called it Neuroplasticity. This means your brain is like a city that never stops expanding, laying fresh tracks and creating neighborhoods whenever you need them.
City Smarts

What Bouncer/ ID Checker me and countless others needed to know is that:
Intelligence shows up in countless ways.
There are people who can read a room instantly, others who can fix anything with their hands...
...and then there are folks building entire home renovations just by watching YouTube videos.
All of this learning - whether from books, hands-on work, or video tutorials - happens through these neural pathways.
These are the thoroughfares your brain uses to carry information from place to place.
On the Road

Contrary to earlier belief, your neural network can actually expand and multiply throughout your life.
So even if you’re feeling like you’ve run out of road - YOU HAVEN’T!
Your brain is always in Construction Mode; you need to tell it what you want to build and it’ll work with you to create new connections.
Wait, wait, wait - I'm definitely not suggesting you quit your job…..
I'm just saying if there's a part of you that feels stuck or frustrated, you have options.
At any given time in your life - with careful consideration, you can change your focus or line of work and still be okay, if not, better off.
WHEN LEX IS MORE

I wish I could tell you that as a bouncer/ doorguy checking ID's, I had a brilliant epiphany that showed me a different version of myself making it in financial services despite being allergic to numbers and having zero experience.
I’d love to tell you about a grand vision of me empowering dyslexics all over the world through my newsletter, courses and keynotes!
None of that happened.
What moved me off that barstool was a friend.
Someone I hadn't seen in years observing me in action and recognizing there was more to me than what I was doing.
At first I didn't believe him.
But I trusted him - so I said YES.
And he was right - there was more to me…
Just like there's more to you, if you choose to explore it.
Who’s the Boss?

You can build your suburbs and subdivisions up, out or all around.
You manage all building & expansion projects.
You are the blueprint, the Architect and the Mayor.
These Neural Pathways LEX…
They work for You.
Know someone who’d connect with this? Share it with them…..
