Is A.I. the Ultimate Permission Slip?

We're so officially in Holy Shit times.
Every few months or so, society should probably look up.
Stop scrolling long enough to take a peek.
Because the next 5 years could be the wildest of our lives.
At a minimum, technologically.
At the maximum, existentially.
Now I'm no AI scientist or Silicon Valley tech bro.
But I do follow some AI news and how it's reshaping our world.
There’s no doubt that humanity is already reaping major benefits from AI.
From science to medicine, from business to education, we’re in a new and artificial reality.
And though I've never been much of a sci-fi guy, even I know the classic plot.
Human curiosity creates a superintelligence that, wait for it…
Outsmarts us and completely takes over.
I'm not saying that will or won't happen.
But I will share stunning details from actual leading minds in AI.
DOCTOR

I recently heard a podcast with Dr. Roman Yampolskiy He's one of the world's leading experts on AI safety.
The kind of person who knows this stuff at a level most of us never will.
Three years ago, experts predicted we'd reach AGI by 2058.
AGI means Artificial General Intelligence.
It’s AI that can think, reason, and solve problems across every domain as well as or better than humans.
AGI can do everything we can do, but cheaper, faster, and without ever getting tired.
That 2058 prediction?
It's now somewhere between 2027 and 2035, depending on who you ask.
TRAIN

The AI train has left the station and it’s not looking back.
Everything you've been told about planning your career, getting the right degree or climbing the ladder…
Everything we've structured our lives around might not matter the same way in 3, 5 or 10 years.
Companies are already replacing workers with AI.
The reality is..
If they can cut costs by 20 or 30% using AI instead of people, they will.
RACE

A small group of billionaires are racing to build out this tech.
They're investing hundreds of billions to see who gets there first.
They have unlimited resources, massive ambition, egos to match and no plans of waiting around for safeguards to catch up.
It’s acceleration toward something humanity has never been through before.
PERMISSION

This isn’t meant to be a scare tactic.
I’m writing this because it affects us all.
Because so many of us struggle.
Struggle to figure out who to be.
Why we're here or why we feel broken.
We wonder why we still show up to jobs we hate and relationships we tolerate.
And why we hide in corners we've painted ourselves into.
The pressure we carry.
The right degree. Right career path. A thriving business. Climbing invisible ladders.
We've been told our whole lives that if we just work hard, plan carefully and stay the course, we'd get “There”.
But where exactly is “There”?
What if none of it matters the way we thought it would?
What if the career you're killing yourself to build is irrelevant in 3 years because AI can do it in its sleep?
What if the job you hate, or are afraid to leave because of rent, the mortgage or tuition vanishes?
I am wondering though….
What if this massive disruption is actually freeing?
What if AI’s takeover is the universe's way of handing us the Ultimate Permission Slip?
Daring us to "Live like there's no tomorrow" or "follow our dreams".
The great Ta-Da!
Permission to be ourselves!
NOW WHAT?

If AI can do everything, what about us?
If the old rules about career paths and stability become obsolete, then what are we all working towards?
I don't have the answer.
If Dr. Yampolskiy, a dude who’s dedicated his career to understanding AI safety is iffy on what happens next, then I'm definitely not the one with solutions.
And maybe that's okay.
Maybe the point isn't to have it all figured out, now.
It’s to sit with uncertainty.
It's to ask different questions:
What do I actually want to do with my time?
What does it mean to be human at this moment in history?
Everything will be different in 5 years.
Or maybe it won't…
And this is all overblown hype.
Either way….
Shouldn’t we stop living like we have forever to figure it out?
Know someone who’d appreciate this? Share it with them.
